Nestled between two major palaces, Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung, lies Bukchon Hanok Village. It is home to hundreds of traditional Korean houses called 'hanok' that dates back to the Joseon Dynasty. A true living museum to experience in the heart of the city, as it contain tangible cultural assets, historical locations, and important folklores of Korean history.
Seochon, located on the west side of Gyeongbokgong Palace has been known as "The Artist’s Village". During the 14th century, Seochon was the living quarters of poets, painters, craftsmen who were somewhere between upper class and commoners. Today, old hanoks and guesthouse are being transformed into galleries, museums and cafes. If you’re a gallery hopper, you will be spoiled for choices.
Travel back in time with a trip to Jeongdong to experience the first evidences of modernization in Seoul when Joseon Dynasty started opening it’s doors to the Western countries in the late-19th century. The area begins with a peaceful stroll along Deoksugung Stone-Wall road and slowly greeted by old neoclassical style and colonial architecture buildings. Jeongdong remains a favorite place for many Seoulites as it is hidden away from the sound of heavy traffic and the sight of skyscrapers. The tour ends at Cheongye stream with dozens of bridges and small waterfalls.
